Christian Pavlidis
Co-VP Conference -
Hi everyone! My name is Christian Pavlidis, a PhD student in civil engineering with a
research focus in sustainable concrete material. The goal of my research is to lower the carbon
intensity of cement production by substituting a portion of clinker (the “dirty” stuff) with added
limestone filler and blast-furnace slag (waste from Ontario’s old coal mining plants). It’s my
professional goal to help reduce the embodied carbon associated with our structures, so I feel
pretty lucky to be a part of this research - I love what I do! I’m truly looking forward to serving
as the Co-VP Conference for SEA this year, as I think this event provides our student body with
a meaningful introduction to the conference environment, which can be inaccessible for many.
Besides being a lab rat, I enjoy watching horror films and sitcoms, baking, gardening, reading,
hiking, some light gaming, and spending time around friends and my big fat Greek family!
